OCU sweeps league awards for fourth straight week

Pugh, Shores of Stars grab weekly SAC honors

OKLAHOMA CITY – Kali Pugh and Jaden Shores of top-ranked Oklahoma City University became the fourth straight Stars duo to sweep Sooner Athletic Conference softball player of the week honors for the week of April 17-23.
Pugh, a senior out of Vista, Calif, grabbed the player of the week award for the second time in three weeks while Shores, a freshman from Blanchard, Okla., became the fifth straight OCU pitcher to win the hurler of the week honor.
Pugh hit .652 with a 1.087 slugging percentage, going 15-for-23 with 13 runs scored, two homers, two doubles, a triple, 10 RBIs, and four steals. The Stars went 5-1 on the week.
On Tuesday, Pugh delivered a 10th-inning RBI single to key OCU's 9-7 win over West Texas A&M, ranked sixth in NCAA Division II. The Stars pushed their record to 47-0 and win streak to an NAIA-record 52 games while halting West Texas A&M's 24-game home winning streak. West Texas A&M snapped OCU's streaks in the second game of the doubleheader.
She hit both of her home runs in game one of a doubleheader against Bacone and also added a double in the game to finish 3-for-4 with three runs scored and five RBIs. Pugh finished the doubleheader going 5-for-8 with five runs scored and seven RBIs.
Through 52 games, Pugh leads OCU with 71 RBIs, 19 doubles, 17 home runs, 88 hits and 75 runs scored. She is hitting .463 this season with 23 stolen bases and only five strikeouts in 190 at bats.
Shores earned her first career SAC pitcher of the week honor after appearing in three games on the week.
In her three appearances, Shores allowed just five hits, one run, struck out six and walked two over 7.2 innings of work to grab a 1-0 record on the week. She had a 0.91 earned run average.
Shores currently sits at 10-0 on the season with an NAIA leading 0.45 earned run average over 62.1 innings of work. She has thrown six complete game shutouts this season and has struck out 58 batters while walking only 19.
