OCU sweeps SAC weekly awards for third straight week

Meador takes 10th SAC pitcher of week nod

OKLAHOMA CITY – McRae Cayton and Abby Meador of top-ranked Oklahoma City University became the third straight duo to sweep the Sooner Athletic Conference softball player of the week awards for their performances the week of April 10-16.
Cayton, a senior from Irvine, Calif., grabbed SAC player of the week for the second time, while Meador, a junior out of Midwest City, Okla., was named SAC pitcher of the week for the 10th time in her career and the third consecutive time this season.
Meador, the reigning NAIA pitcher of the week, saw action in five games for OCU, picking up three victories with an earned run average of 0.58. On the week, Meador threw 26.1 innings, allowed 10 hits, two earned runs and struck out 30.
The most impressive performance of the week came in an extra-inning win over Houston-Victoria on Thursday in Farmers Branch, Texas. Meador pitched all 12 innings, allowing just one earned runs while striking out 16 and only walking one. She threw 159 pitches in the game and moved her season record to 18-0.
Meador has been dominant in the circle this season. In 103.1 innings, she has given up just 42 hits, nine earned runs and struck out 135 batters. She ranks in the top five in the NAIA in opponents' batting average (.125), hits allowed per nine (2.85) and ERA (0.61).
Cayton led the way offensively for OCU this week, going 9-for-19 with three doubles, two homers, seven runs scored and four RBIs. She finished the week with a .947 slugging percentage and became the third OCU player to win the award this year.
Cayton recorded multiple hits in four of the six games she played in on the week, highlighted by a 2-for-3 performance against St. Gregory's in which she had a home run, an RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base.
This season, Cayton is hitting .344 with 11 doubles, two home runs, 28 RBIs and has only struck out six times in 128 at bats. She has not struck out since March 7 against Rogers State. Cayton became SAC player of the week April 20-26, 2015.
