Stars duo nabs SAC weekly awards

Meador notches ninth league pitcher of week nod

OKLAHOMA CITY – Abby Meador and Kali Pugh of No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University collected weekly Sooner Athletic Conference softball honors for April 3-9.
Meador took SAC pitcher of the week for the ninth time, and Pugh became SAC player of the week for the first time. The Stars, top-ranked in the NAIA, swept both SAC player of the week awards for the second consecutive week.
Meador, a junior from Midwest City, Okla., snared league hurler of the week for the second week in a row. Meador hurled her second career no-hitter in an 8-0 blanking of Mid-America Christian on April 4 at Ann Lacy Stadium. She struck out 12 with two walks in five innings. Meador completed the week 2-0 with 25 strikeouts in 11 innings while allowing four hits and no runs.
In 2017, Meador has gone 15-0 with a 0.64 earned run average, 105 strikeouts, 11 complete games and six shutouts in 77 innings. Among the NAIA, Meador ranks second in opponents' batting average (.126) and average hits allowed as well as fifth in ERA and earned runs allowed (seven).
Pugh, a senior from Vista, Calif., posted a .563 batting average, two doubles, three home runs, 13 RBIs and a 1.250 slugging percentage over the previous week. In the first game vs. Mid-America Christian on April 4, Pugh drove in a career-best seven runs while belting two homers for her fourth multi-homer game of her career. She also homered with four RBIs in a 9-0 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Thursday in Bartlesville, Okla.
On the year, Pugh has hit .458 with 15 doubles, a triple, 12 homers, 53 RBIs and 18 stolen bases in 18 tries. Pugh ranks second with 56 runs scored and 118 total bases and fourth in total bases per game (2.95) in the NAIA.
Oklahoma City puts its 40-0 overall mark and 14-0 league record on the line in a 2 p.m. twin bill Monday at Southwestern Christian in Bethany, Okla.
