OCU hosts SAC softball tournament

Stars have won 27 in a row

OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University starts postseason play against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Sooner Athletic Conference softball tournament at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The Stars, top-ranked in the NAIA, also meet Mid-America Christian at 5 p.m. Thursday, then Texas Wesleyan at 3 p.m. Friday at Ann Lacy Stadium in pool play.
Ann Lacy Stadium will be the site for the SAC Tournament championship game 2 p.m. Saturday featuring the winners of the tournament pools. Pool play happens Thursday and Friday at OCU and the Ball Fields at Firelake in Shawnee, Okla.
Other pool-play action at OCU will be Mid-America Christian vs. Texas Wesleyan at 11 a.m. and Texas Wesleyan vs. Southwestern Assemblies of God at 3 p.m. Thursday, and Mid-America Christian vs. Southwestern Assemblies at 1 p.m. Friday.
Oklahoma City (56-1) looks for its 17th SAC Tournament championship. USAO is the defending conference tournament champion after its 7-4 win over OCU in the 2015 tournament title game. The Stars come off winning their 16th SAC regular-season crown.
Samantha Stallbaumer, a freshman from Haven, Kan., tops OCU with a .458 batting average and 37 stolen bases, while Kali Pugh, a junior from Vista, Calif., has hit a team-high 15 home runs. Leslie Miller, a senior from Blanchard, Okla., has driven in 72 runs to rank second in the NAIA.
The Stars have piled up monster offensive numbers, leading the NAIA with 502 runs scored, 434 RBIs, 637 hits, a 0.82 earned run average and 464 batters struck out. See how OCU stacks up with the rest of the NAIA by clicking here.
Georgia Wall, a freshman from Marlow, Okla., paces the NAIA with a 0.35 ERA, while Abby Meador, a sophomore from Midwest City, Okla., has run up a 22-0 record with 205 strikeouts for OCU.
