OCU duo earns SAC player of week accolades

Pugh, Wall lead Stars to five wins in Evangel-Fayetteville Classic

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University swept Sooner Athletic Conference's weekly softball awards as Kali Pugh took the player of the week honor, and Georgia Wall became the pitcher of the week for Feb. 22-28.
The Stars, ranked sixth in NAIA softball, went 5-0 and outscored their opponents 41-5 in the Evangel-Fayetteville Classic on Feb. 26-27. OCU picked up three wins over top-25 teams while improving to 18-0 on the season.
Pugh, a junior from Vista, Calif., went 9-for-20 (.450 average) with four home runs, nine RBIs and three doubles. In the Stars' 11-2 victory over No. 23 Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.), she was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Against Midland (Neb.), she smacked two home runs and a double with four RBIs.
Wall, a freshman from Marlow, Okla., threw a no-hitter and picked up the win in OCU's 8-0 shutout of Central Baptist (Ark.) on Feb. 26. She threw five scoreless innings, while giving up two walks and striking out four batters. Wall also pitched three scoreless innings of relief on two appearances against No. 22 Bellevue (Neb.) and Midland on Feb. 27. She added four strikeouts and allowed one hit.
On the season, Pugh is hitting .403 with five home runs, six doubles and 24 RBIs. In eight appearances and five starts, Wall is 4-0 with a 0.26 earned run average, 27 strikeouts and a save on 27.1 innings pitched.
The Stars face Sooner Athletic Conference foe USAO in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha, Okla.
