SAC Softball Tournament comes to OCU

Stars meet Southwestern Assemblies of God at 1:30 p.m. Thursday

OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University faces Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 1:30 p.m. Thursday to begin play in the Sooner Athletic Conference softball tournament at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Oklahoma City, top-ranked in NAIA softball, also takes on Oklahoma Baptist at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Mid-America Christian at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Ann Lacy Stadium in pool play.
The SAC Tournament championship game will be 1 p.m. Saturday between the winners of the tournament pools. Pool play will be Thursday and Friday at OCU and the Ball Fields at Firelake in Shawnee, Okla.
Other pool-play contests at Ann Lacy Stadium will be Mid-America Christian vs. Oklahoma Baptist at 11 a.m. Thursday, Mid-America Christian vs. Southwestern Assemblies of God at 4 p.m. Thursday, then Oklahoma Baptist vs. SAGU at 11 a.m. Friday.
The Stars will look to defend their SAC Tournament title. OCU captured its 16th SAC Tournament championship with an 8-0 win over Mid-America Christian on May 3 at Ann Lacy Stadium. OCU's previous tournament titles have come in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014. OCU took the SAC regular-season crown for the first time since earning the league co-championship in 2011.
Jocelin Diaz, a senior from Maracay, Venezuela, leads the Stars with a .470 batting average, while Kylee Rounsaville, a senior from Mustang, Okla., tops OCU with 66 RBIs. Jamie Rateliff, a senior from Mustang, Okla., has hit a team-high 16 home runs.
Abby Meador spearheads the OCU pitching staff with a 23-2 record, 0.92 earned run average and 199 strikeouts in 136.1 innings pitched. Meador, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., ranks second in ERA and third in wins among the NAIA.
OCU leads the NAIA in home runs per game (1.71), hits (571), runs scored (483) and RBIs (444) while ranking second in batting average (.391), slugging percentage (.656), runs scored per game (9.29), RBIs per game (8.54) and hits per contest (10.98).
