Stars' Meador scoops up SAC pitcher of week

Freshman from Midwest City, Okla., reels in fourth weekly conference honor

Abby Meador tops the NAIA in earned run average while allowing the fewest runs and earned runs this season.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Abby Meador of Oklahoma City University notched the Sooner Athletic Conference softball pitcher of the week honor for the second consecutive time.
For the week of April 6-12, Meador, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., accumulated a 2-0 record, 0.44 earned run average, a save and 24 strikeouts in 16 innings. Meador teamed with Maria Gomez on a five-inning perfect game in the Stars' 8-0 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Friday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Oklahoma City's victory over SAGU provided Phil McSpadden with his 1,458th career victory to leapfrog Margie Wright into No. 1 on the all-time list of college softball wins vs. four-year schools. Meador snagged a save in the first game, then the victory in the second of a sweep past Oklahoma Wesleyan on Tuesday. She posted the win against Texas Wesleyan on Saturday.
Meador leads the NAIA in ERA at 0.77. She has gone 14-1 with five complete games, four shutouts, two saves and 128 strikeouts in 82 innings this year. Meador has been SAC pitcher of the week four times this season.
OCU's twin bill at Texas Wesleyan originally set for Monday has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fort Worth, Texas. The Stars (37-1) are scheduled to meet Southwestern Assemblies of God in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday in Waxahachie, Texas.
