Diaz, Gomez of OCU capture player of week awards

Stars are 23-1 on season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's Jocelin Diaz collected Sooner Athletic Conference softball player of the week, while teammate Maria Gomez was named SAC pitcher of the week.
OCU took doubleheaders against No. 6 St. Gregory's and Baker (Kan.) before splitting against 18th-ranked Houston-Victoria. Diaz crushed a three-run home run to power the Stars past Houston-Victoria in the first game.
Diaz, a senior center fielder from Maracay, Venezuela, went 10-for-18 (.556) with six runs scored, three doubles, a triple, a home run and five RBIs as the Stars went to 23-1 during the week of March 16-22.
On the year, Diaz owns a .433 average, six doubles, two triples, four homers, 21 RBIs and six stolen bases.
Gomez, a senior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, went 2-0 in games against St. Gregory's, Baker and Houston-Victoria. She allowed one earned run in 13.2 innings of work while giving up 16 hits, striking out five and walked five.
In 2015, Gomez has posted an 8-0 record, 1.67 earned run average, five complete games and 52 strikeouts in 50.1 innings pitched.
The Stars, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, travel to conference rival Southwestern Christian for a doubleheader 2 p.m. Thursday in Bethany, Okla.
