OCU takes SAC Tournament crown

Stars blank Mid-America Christian 8-0

OCU snagged its 16th SAC Tournament championship.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City University blanked Mid-America Christian 8-0 and captured its 16th Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament title Saturday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Danielle Fox tossed a three-hit shutout to help lift OCU, ranked No. 17 in NAIA softball, over Mid-America Christian. The Stars improved to 49-11 on the season and secured an automatic bid to the NAIA Championship Opening Round.
OCU has captured 16 SAC Tournament championships in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014.
Jamie Rateliff blasted a two-run home run over the right-field fence and put OCU on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning.
The Stars pushed their lead to 3-0 in the top of the third when Jocelin Diaz singled down the left-field line and drove in Kyndra Holasek.
Maxime van Dalen slugged a solo homer in the top of the fifth. Later in the inning, Cheyanne Terry singled up the middle and drove in Amanda Ingram to make the score 5-0 in favor of OCU.
Rateliff singled up the middle and drove in Emily Krienke in the top of the sixth. Holasek capped the inning with a two-RBI single up the middle and gave the Stars an 8-0 advantage.
Fox retired the Mid-America Christian side in order in the bottom of the six and handed OCU the 8-0 run-rule victory.
Rateliff went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and powered the Stars' offense. Holasek went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
OCU will host the NAIA Championship Opening Round on May 12-14 for the second consecutive year at Ann Lacy Stadium. Tournament qualifiers and pairings will be announced May 6.
