Stars power past Kansas Wesleyan 8-0

OCU advances to face No. 7 Spring Hill

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University topped Kansas Wesleyan 8-0 Monday in the first round of the NAIA Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The Stars, ranked No. 16 in NAIA softball, outhit the 25th-ranked Coyotes 11-3 and got four scoreless innings from starting pitcher Danielle Fox to pick up the win and improve to 50-11 on the season. OCU will square off with No. 7 Spring Hill (Ala.) at noon Tuesday.
Kylee Rounsaville put OCU on the scoreboard with a two-RBI double to right-center field in the top of the first.
OCU stretched its lead to 3-0 in the top of the second when Maxime van Dalen scored on an error.
Jocelin Diaz led off the top of the third with a solo home run to left center. Emily Krienke scored on a wild pitch and stretched to Stars' lead to 5-0.
Later in the inning, Jamie Rateliff scored on a sacrifice bunt laid down by van Dalen. Kyndra Holasek capped the inning with an RBI single and made the score 7-0 in favor of OCU.
Rounsaville grounded out to short stop and drove in Diaz from third to push the Stars' advantage to 8-0.
Maci-Brooke Lambert retired the side in the bottom of the fifth and handed OCU the 8-0, run-rule victory.
Fox gave up three hits in four innings and struck out six to pick up the win and improve to 19-3. Lambert provided one scoreless inning of relief.
Rounsaville went 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead OCU at the dish.
Oklahoma City notched its 18th 50-victory season under Phil McSpadden, in his 27th year as OCU coach.
