Stars win two in SAC Tournament

OCU downed Texas Wesleyan 11-2, Southwestern Christian 16-2

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University downed Texas Wesleyan 11-2 before pounding Southwestern Christian 16-2 Thursday in the first day of pool play in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The Stars, ranked No. 17 in NAIA softball, outhit their opponents 32-12 and moved to 2-0 in pool play. The wins moved OCU to 47-11 overall.
After falling behind in the bottom of the first inning, OCU got an RBI single from Danielle Fox to tie the score at 1-1 in the top of the second.
OCU plated three more runs in the top of the third. Amanda Ingram started the scoring when she crossed the plate on a double steal. Kyndra Holasek scored on a fielder's choice and Jocelin Diaz scored on an error to give the Stars a 4-1 advantage.
The Stars erupted for seven runs in the top of the fifth to put the game out of reach. Diaz homered to left field to start the scoring. Jamie Rateliff followed with an RBI double and later scored on a wild pitch. RBI singles from Ingram, Cheyanne Terry and Diaz capped the inning and gave OCU an 11-2 lead.
Maci-Brooke Lambert retired the side in order in the bottom of the fifth and handed OCU the 11-2 victory.
Fox allowed two runs on four hits with five strikeouts in 3.2 innings and picked up the win. Lambert tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in relief and earned a save.
Diaz went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead OCU at the dish. Terry followed with two RBIs.
Terry singled through the left side of the infield and drove in a run in the top of the first against Southwestern Christian. Diaz drove in a run on sacrifice fly to left and gave the Stars a 2-0 lead.
OCU blew the game open with a seven-run top of second inning. An RBI single from Ingram and Terry and an RBI double from Holasek started the inning. Diaz and Kylee Rounsaville scored on a Lady Eagle throwing error. Emily Krienke stole home to cap the inning and make the score 9-0 in favor of OCU.
The Stars pushed five more runs across in the top of the third. Holasek scored on a wild pitch to start the inning. OCU got RBI singles from Krienke, Kayley Humann and Maxime van Dalen and an RBI ground out from Shelbi Legg to take a 14-0 lead.
After Southwestern Christian scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, the Stars tacked on two more runs. Maria Gomez and Krienke each drove in a run to give OCU a 16-2 lead.
Rateliff retired the side in the bottom of the fifth and handed OCU the 16-2 victory. Rateliff allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out one in five innings to pick up the win.
Holasek, Krienke and Terry all drove in two runs to lead OCU at the plate.
The Stars will return to pool-play action against St. Gregory's at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
