OCU tops Mid-America Christian 8-5, 8-1

Stars improve to 21-5 in SAC play

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University swept a doubleheader from Mid-America Christian 8-5, 8-1 Saturday at Jack Allen Field.
The Stars, ranked No. 9 in NAIA softball, outhit the Lady Evangels 23-12 on the day and picked up both wins to improve to 38-8 overall and 21-5 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Jocelin Diaz put the Stars on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Kyndra Holasek from third base.
Mid-America Christian responded with one run in the bottom of the first and three more in the bottom of the second to take a 4-1 advantage.
OCU pushed three runs across in the top of the third and tied the score at 4-4. Jamie Rateliff and Cheyanne Terry each came through with an RBI single and Terry scored on a Mid-America Christian error in the inning.
Holasek singled to center field and drove in Emily Krienke from second base to give OCU a 5-4 lead in the top of the fourth.
After the Lady Evangels evened the score in the bottom of the fifth, Krienke led off the top of the sixth with a triple and later scored on a Holasek double to make the score 6-5 in favor of OCU.
The Stars scored a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh. RBI singles from Kayley Humann and Maxime van Dalen gave OCU an 8-5 edge.
Danielle Fox retired the Mid-America Christian side in order in the bottom of the seventh and gave OCU the 8-5 victory. Fox struck out six in seven inning of work and picked up the win.
Holasek went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead OCU at the plate. Diaz also drove in two runs.
Holasek scored on sacrifice bunt laid down by Diaz to give OCU a 1-0 lead in the nightcap.
Amanda Ingram and Krienke each scored on Lady Evangel errors in the top of the second and stretched the OCU lead to 3-0.
Shelbi Legg singled to left center and drove in Diaz to stake the Stars to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
Diaz singled to center and drove in a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to make the score 6-0.
Krienke blasted a solo home run in the top of the fifth. Holasek followed with an RBI single to hand OCU an 8-0 lead.
Mid-America Christian managed a run in the bottom of the fifth, but the pitching duo of Rateliff and
Maci-Brooke Lambert shut down the Lady Evangel bats the rest of the way to give the Stars the 8-1 victory.
Rateliff allowed one run on five hits with two strikeouts and picked up the win. Lambert provided one inning of scoreless relief.
Diaz went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs to pace the Stars at the dish. Holasek followed with two RBIs.
OCU will return to action against Oklahoma Baptist in a 5 p.m. doubleheader April 16 at Lady Bison Softball Field in Shawnee, Okla.
