OCU downs Southwestern Christian 4-1, 9-0

Stars complete regular-season sweep of Lady Eagles

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University took a pair of game from Southwestern Christian Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The Stars, ranked No. 9 in NAIA softball, held off the Lady Eagles 4-1 in the first game before pounding Southwestern Christian 9-0 in the nightcap. With the sweep the Stars improved to 36-8 overall and 19-5 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Danielle Fox singled to right field and drove the first two runs of the ballgame in the bottom of the third inning.
Kyndra Holasek plated Logan Sundbye on sacrifice fly to left and gave the Stars a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Southwestern Christian pushed a run across in the top of the fifth and cut the OCU advantage to 3-1.
Holasek doubled to right center and drove Emily Krienke to give OCU an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
Fox retired the side in order in the top of the seventh and handed OCU the 4-1 victory. Fox allowed one run on two hits with six strikeouts and picked up her 11th win of the season.
Fox and Holasek each went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs to lead the Stars at the plate.
Jocelin Diaz drove in a run and scored on error in the top of the first. Fox drove in Jamie Rateliff to cap the inning and give OCU a 3-0 lead in game No. 2.
The Stars plated six runs in the bottom of the third and took a 9-0 lead. Rateliff started the inning with an RBI double and later scored on a sacrifice bunt laid down by Shelbi Legg. Fox scored on an error, and Amanda Ingram followed with an RBI single to make the score 8-0. Holasek capped the scoring with an RBI single up the middle.
Maria Gomez retired the Lady Eagles' side in the top of the fifth and handed the Stars the run-rule victory.
Rateliff allowed three hits and struck out two in three scoreless innings to pick her seventh win of the season. Gomez tossed two scoreless innings in relief.
Rateliff also went 1-for-3 with two RBIs to lead OCU at the dish.
The Stars will return to action against Mid-America Christian in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Jack Allen Field in Oklahoma City.
