St. Gregory’s sweeps OCU

Stars fall 4-3, 4-2 to Lady Cavaliers

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University dropped a pair of games against St. Gregory's Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The Stars, ranked No. 2 in NAIA softball, rallied late in both games but failed to take the lead and fell 4-3 and 4-2 to the 13th-ranked Lady Cavaliers. The sweep moved OCU to 27-5 overall and 10-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
St. Gregory's pushed a run across in the top of the second inning and plated two more in third to take a 3-0 lead.
The Stars rallied to tie the score at 3-3 in the bottom fourth. Kyndra Holasek singled up the middle and drove Shelbi Legg and Maci-Brooke Lambert. Later in the inning, Kylee Rounsaville was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and brought Amanda Ingram home from third base.
St. Gregory's scored the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth and took a 4-3 advantage.
Ingram singled and stole second in the bottom the seventh but was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a St. Gregory's throwing error to end the game.
Starting pitcher Danielle Fox tossed 2.2 innings and struck out one. Lambert allowed one run in 4.1 innings of relief but was saddled with the loss.
Holasek went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead OCU at the dish.
The Lady Cavaliers jumped on top 4-0 after six inning of play in the nightcap.
OCU got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth when Rounsaville scored from third on a St. Gregory's throwing error. Maxime van Dalen followed with a solo home run to center field that cut the Lady Cavaliers' lead to 4-2.
The Stars were retired in order in the bottom of the seventh, and St. Gregory's held on for the 4-2 victory.
Maria Gomez struck out nine in seven innings of work but picked up the loss and moved to 11-1 on the season.
Van Dalen went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead OCU at the plate.
The Stars will return to action against Texas Wesleyan in a 5 p.m. doubleheader Friday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
