OKLAHOMA CITY – Kyndra Holasek's two-run home run brought Oklahoma City University a doubleheader sweep of MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) 11-6, 5-4 on Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Holasek, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., launched a two-run blast beyond the left-field wall to put the Stars ahead 5-3 in the sixth inning of the second game. OCU, ranked second in NAIA softball, improved to 27-3.
Earlier in the first inning of the second game, Holasek nailed a solo shot over the right-center field wall. Jocelin Diaz added an RBI single to left, and Danielle Fox doubled to left to drive in another run for a 3-0 OCU lead.
MidAmerica Nazarene rallied as Lynsey Keith homered in the third and hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Vanessa Arandules singled to tie the game 3-3 in the fifth.
Arandules doubled to cut OCU's lead to 5-4 with one out in the seventh. With the tying run in scoring position, Jamie Rateliff got the final two outs to secure the Stars' victory.
Rateliff, a junior from Mustang, Okla., improved to 5-1 after pitching the final 3.2 innings. Fox, a senior from Yukon, Okla., struck out four through 2.1 innings to start the contest, and Maci-Brooke Lambert also pitched an inning.
Holasek went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Holasek's fifth and sixth homers of 2014 helped atone for her three errors. Diaz, a junior from Maracay, Venezuela, was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Maxime van Dalen, a freshman from Heerhugowaard, Netherlands, went 1-for-2 and scored a run for the Stars.
Earlier Thursday, OCU exploded for seven runs in the second to key the first-game win. Kylee Rounsaville highlighted the Stars' barrage with a three-run homer to left-center field. Holasek and Lambert knocked in runs with base hits, while van Dalen smacked an RBI double.
Cheyanne Terry brought in the Stars' first run of the day with a base hit to right to score Holasek, who tripled to lead off the bottom of the first. Terry scored on van Dalen's squeeze bunt.
Diaz tacked on a run-scoring single in the fourth, and Amanda Ingram reached home plate on Terry's groundout.
Lambert moved to 5-1 with the win. Lambert, a junior from Healdton, Okla., pitched 4.2 innings. Fox started and ended, completing the last two innings in the circle.
Holasek was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Rounsaville, a junior from Yukon, Okla., went 2-for-4, scored twice and drove in three runs for OCU. Lambert went 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, and van Dalen was 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.
OCU resumes Sooner Athletic Conference play against 16th-ranked St. Gregory's in a 5 p.m. twin bill Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
