Stars cruise to three wins in Fillmore Memorial

OCU overwhelms competition with 40 runs Friday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Oklahoma City University won three games in romps Friday in the David Fillmore Memorial Tournament at the Cooper Complex.
OCU routed Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) 15-2, stomped Morningside (Iowa) 14-3 and trounced Northwestern (Iowa) 11-1. The Stars, ranked third in NAIA softball, moved to 23-1 this year.
Against Cardinal Stritch, Jocelin Diaz propelled OCU by crushing a grand slam as part of a five-run first inning. The Stars led 13-2 in the top of the third. Diaz, Kyndra Holasek and Jamie Rateliff launched home runs Friday.
Rateliff, a junior from Mustang, Okla., was 3-for-4 with four runs driven in, while Diaz, a junior from Maracay, Venezuela, went 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Holasek, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-4 with two runs knocked in, and Maxime van Dalen, a freshman from Heerhugowaard, Netherlands, brought in three runs while going 2-for-4.
OCU's Maria Gomez moved to 10-0 on the year. Gomez, a junior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, struck out two in five innings.
Against Morningside, Diaz and Rateliff struck for homers. Diaz finished the game 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Rateliff went 3-for-4 with three runs driven in.
Rateliff also started in the pitching circle for OCU, going 3.2 innings. Rateliff notched the victory to go to 4-0.
Cheyanne Terry, a junior from Little Axe, Okla., went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a sacrifice hit, while van Dalen was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Stars.
Against Northwestern, OCU tallied nine runs in the first. Danielle Fox fanned six in five innings while allowing one unearned run on a walk and two hits. Fox, a senior from Yukon, Okla., improved to 5-0.
Holasek went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Rateliff went 2-for-3 with two runs driven in. Terry was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Emily Krienke brought in two runs while going 1-for-2.
OCU will compete in bracket play in the David Fillmore Memorial Tournament on Saturday.
