Stars sweep USAO

OCU improves to 4-0 in SAC

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Oklahoma City University swept a doubleheader with USAO 2-0, 4-1 Tuesday.
The Stars, ranked No. 3 in NAIA softball, shut down the Lady Drovers in the two-game set and improved to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
OCU broke onto the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning thanks to an RBI ground out from Cheyanne Terry that plated Amanda Ingram and made the score 1-0.
Kyndra Holasek doubled to right-center field and plated Logan Sundbye from third base to give the Stars a 2-0 advantage in the top of the seventh.
Maria Gomez retired the side in the bottom half of the inning and handed OCU the 2-0 victory. Gomez tossed seven scoreless innings and struck out eight to improve to 3-0 on the season.
OCU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game No. 2. Kylee Rounsaville doubled to right center and plated Maxime van Dalen from third. Jamie Rateliff followed with an RBI single.
Rounsaville singled in the top of third and drove in Terry from second to stretch the OCU lead to 3-0.
Danielle Fox scored on a passed ball in the top of the seventh and tacked on an insurance run to make the score 4-1.
Maci-Brooke Lambert slammed the door in the bottom of the seventh and handed the Stars the 4-1 victory.
Rateliff tossed 6.1 innings and allowed one run on five hits with two strikeouts to pick up the win. Lambert pitched 0.2 innings in relief and earned the save.
The Stars will return to action against Oklahoma Wesleyan in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Ann Lacy Stadium.
