Stars’ Gomez named SAC pitcher of the week

Gomez went 2-0 against Southwestern Christian and Avila

OKLAHOMA CITY – Maria Gomez of Oklahoma City University was named Sooner Athletic Conference softball pitcher of the week for Feb. 17-23.
Gomez, a junior right hander from Yaracuy, Venezuela, allowed one earned run in 12 innings, collecting wins over Southwestern Christian and Avila (Mo.). She struck out 16 and picked up complete-game wins in both outings. Gomez allowed five hits on the week.
Gomez is 3-0 with an earned run average of 1.38 so far this season. She is holding opposing batters to .208 and is the team leader in strikeouts with 21.
Third-ranked OCU, 8-1 overall and 2-0 in SAC play, will return to action against USAO at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Chickasha, Okla.
