Stars sweep Southwestern Christian 12-0, 15-3

OCU opens SAC play with two wins

Kylee Rounsaville clubbed her first home run of the year against Southwestern Christian.

BETHANY, Okla. – Oklahoma City University opened Sooner Athletic Conference play with a pair of victories over Southwestern Christian Friday.
The Stars, ranked No. 3 in NAIA softball, topped the Lady Eagles 12-0 in the first game and 15-3 in the second to improve to 6-1 overall at 2-0 in SAC play.
Kylee Rounsaville put the Stars on top 3-0 with a bases-clearing single to center field in the top of the first inning.
In the top of the second, Amanda Ingram doubled to left center and drove in Daniella Costaganna to make the score 4-0. Kyndra Holasek followed with an RBI single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jocelin Diaz to give the Stars a 6-0 advantage.
OCU pushed four more runs across in the top of the fourth. A sacrifice fly form Holasek and RBI singles by Kayley Humann and Rounsaville gave the Stars a 10-0 advantage.
Humann capped the scoring with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to give OCU the 12-0 victory.
Maria Gomez tossed a complete game and struck out nine while allowing two hits to pick up the win.
Rounsaville slugged a two-run homer in the top of the first of game No. 2 and staked OCU to a 2-0 lead.
Emily Krienke and Ingram scored in the top of the second and gave OCU a 4-0 lead.
The Lady Eagles pushed three runs across in the bottom of the third to cut the Stars' lead to a single run.
Holasek added another OCU run with a solo blast in the top of the fourth.
OCU busted the game open with a 10-run top of the fifth to make the score 15-3. Ingram smashed a three-run bomb in the middle of the inning.
Danielle Fox retired the side in the bottom of the fifth and handed OCU the 15-3 victory.
Maci-Brooke Lambert and Fox combine to strike out six in five innings. Lambert picked up the win.
The Stars will return to action in their home opener against Avila (Mo.) at 1 p.m. Sunday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
