Stars pick up 3-2 win over Belhaven

OCU falls to Our Lady of the Lake 5-4 in extra innings

FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma City University split a pair of games in the Cowtown Classic, taking a 3-2 win over Belhaven (Miss.) in a matchup of top 10-ranked NAIA softball teams Saturday at Gateway Park.
Also Saturday, Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) knocked off the third-ranked Stars 5-4 in eight innings. OCU went to 4-1 on the year.
Jamie Rateliff, a junior from Mustang, Okla., limited ninth-ranked Belhaven to one earned run on three hits and two walks. Rateliff (1-0) struck out two in 5.2 innings. Maci-Brooke Lambert finished the job, working the final 1.1 innings for her second save of the season.
The Stars built a 3-0 advantage through two innings. Shelbi Legg led off the second inning with a double, then Jocelin Diaz drove in Legg with a double. Kyndra Holasek singled to bring in OCU's third run of the game.
Diaz, a junior from Maracay, Venezuela, went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Holasek, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., was 2-for-3, scored a run and drove in a run.
Our Lady of the Lake stunned the Stars with two runs in the bottom of the eighth. In the top of the eighth, Kylee Rounsaville nailed an RBI single to put OCU up 4-3.
OCU rallied from a 2-0 deficit with three runs in the sixth. Maxime van Dalen contributed a run-scoring base hit in the sixth.
Holasek finished 2-for-4 and scored a run in the late game. Rounsaville and van Dalen were each 1-for-4 with an RBI.
The Stars open Sooner Athletic Conference play against Southwestern Christian in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Thursday in Bethany, Okla.
