Stars top Mid-America Christian, St. Gregory’s, fall to Lubbock Christian

OCU picked up a pair of wins in the SAC Tournament and improved to 46-11 on the season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University downed Mid-America Christian 14-1 and St. Gregory's 6-1 before falling 5-1 to Lubbock Christian (Texas) Friday in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Hall of Fame Stadium.
The Stars, ranked No. 5 in NAIA softball, scored 21 runs on 27 hits on the day and moved to 46-11 on the season.
With OCU leading Mid-America Christian 3-0 in the bottom third inning, Jamie Rateliff clubbed a grand-slam homer over the center-field fence to stake the Stars to a 7-0 advantage.
Rateliff drove in two of OCU's seven runs in the bottom of the fourth and stretched the lead to 14-1.
Emily Krienke struck out four batters in a perfect 3.2 innings and picked up the win to move to 4-1 on the season. Danielle Fox allowed one run on two hits in 1.1 innings of relief.
St. Gregory's took an early 1-0 lead, but OCU responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth.
Rateliff doubled and drove in two runs in the fifth. In the sixth, LeeAnn Lopez and Drew Wright each drove in a run to give OCU the 6-1 victory.
Rateliff, allowed one run on three hits in seven innings of work to pick up her 20th win of the season.
Lubbock Christian plated a pair of runs in the first and third innings on OCU errors and took a 2-0 lead.
Lopez cut the Lady Chaps' lead to 2-1 with a solo home run to left center in the top of the fourth.
Lubbock Christian added two more runs in the fifth and the sixth innings and took the 5-1 victory.
Rateliff led the Stars at the plate driving in eight runs on the day. Lopez hit her 19th home run and added her 77th and 78th RBIs of the season.
The Stars will return to action against either Oklahoma Baptist or St. Gregory's at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hall of Fame Stadium.
