Stars pound Bellevue 7-2

OCU takes on Bellevue at noon Tuesday for trip to NAIA Championships

Magean De La Torre cranked her ninth home run of the year and 22nd of her OCU career.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University advanced into the championship game of the NAIA Softball Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket with a 7-2 victory over Bellevue (Neb.) on Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The fourth-ranked Stars (49-12) meet Bellevue at noon Wednesday with a spot in the NAIA Championships at stake. An if-necessary game could follow at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Magean De La Torre, Emily Krienke and Drew Wright each pounded home runs to power OCU. Krienke, a sophomore from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, belted a two-run blast over the right-field wall in the fourth inning to put the Stars in front for good.
Krienke answered after Shelby Kindelin's solo homer tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the third. Kelsie Bridgeford homered leading off the bottom of the second to give Bellevue an early 1-0 edge.
OCU's Kyndra Holasek smacked an RBI triple to right-center field in the third. LeeAnn Lopez followed by nailing a run-scoring double to right to bring the Stars a 2-1 advantage.
Wright hammered a two-run shot to left to increase OCU's margin to 6-2 in the fifth. De La Torre cranked a solo homer in the seventh.
Angela Lovelady, a senior from El Cajon, Calif., went 2-for-3 and scored a run, while Tori Joyner, a senior from Mustang, Okla., was 2-for-3. Holasek, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., was 1-for-4, scored twice, drove in a run, and Wright, a senior from Moore, Okla., was 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.
De La Torre notched her ninth homer of the year, and Krienke went deep for the sixth time in 2013. Wright had her 11th homer of the season.
Jamie Rateliff racked up the victory with 4.1 innings of relief. Rateliff struck out five and permitted two hits and two walks. Rateliff improved to 23-3 on the year.
The NAIA Championships run May 24-30 at South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus, Ga.
