OCU sweeps Mid-America Christian 6-1, 12-1

The Stars complete a four-game sweep the Lady Evangels to move to 14-4 on the season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University topped Mid-America Christian 6-1 and 12-1 Thursday at Jack Allen Field to complete a four-game sweep of the Lady Evangels.
The Stars, ranked No. 4 in NAIA softball, outscored Mid-America Christian 18-1 in the double header and improved to 14-4 overall and 5-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Magean De La Torre plated Tori Joyner with a sacrifice fly to give OCU a 1-0 advantage in the top of the first inning.
Drew Wright singled to center field and drove in a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to make the score 3-0. Later in the inning, Jamie Rateliff plated Wright and gave the Stars a 4-0 lead.
One batter later, Angela Lovelady singled through the left side of the infield and drove in a run. Rateliff stole home to cap the inning and give the Stars a 6-0 advantage.
Mid-America drove a run across in the bottom of the sixth, but OCU closed the door on the Lady Evangels to take the 6-1 victory.
Elizabeth Oberst tossed 5.1 scoreless innings to move to 10-2 on the season.
Wright finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Stars at the dish.
OCU plated seven runs in the top of the second inning of game No. 2. Lovelady started the scoring with a two-RBI single and later scored on a bases-loaded walk to make the score 3-0. The Stars pushed four more runs across on two Mid-America Christian errors to stretch their lead to 7-1.
In the top of the third, Rateliff scored on a sacrifice bunt and Shelbi Legg scored on an error to push the OCU advantage to 9-1. Later in the inning, LeeAnn Lopez crushed a three-run home run to left and extended the Stars' lead to 12-1.
Rateliff allowed one run on one hit and struck out three batters to earn her first win of the season.
Lopez led OCU at the plate with four RBIs. Kyndra Holasek followed with three RBIs.
OCU will return to action in a doubleheader against Northeastern State at 1 p.m. Saturday in Tahlequah, Okla.
