Stars drop Mid-America Christian 14-0, 7-2

OCU outhit Lady Evangels 22-10 on day to improve to 12-4 overall and 3-1 in SAC play

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University swept a Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader from Mid-America Christian 14-0 and 7-2 Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The Stars, ranked No. 4 in NAIA softball, outhit the Lady Evangels 22-10 on the day to improve to 12-4 overall and 3-1 in SAC play.
Drew Wright put the Stars on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning to make the score 1-0.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, Kyndra Holasek tripled to left field and drove in three runs to give OCU a 4-0 advantage. LeeAnn Lopez followed with a single through the left side of the infield to plate Holasek and make the score 5-0.
Jamie Rateliff led off the bottom of the third with a double down the left-field and later scored on a wild pitch to give OCU a 6-0 lead.
The Stars' offense exploded with an eight-run bottom of the fourth. Lopez started the scoring with an RBI double to left field. The senior from Grand Prairie, Texas, drove in two runs in the inning to stake OCU to a 14-0 lead.
Elizabeth Oberst tossed a three-up-three-down top of the fifth to give the Stars the 14-0 run-rule victory. Oberst allowed two hits and struck out five batters in five scoreless innings and improved to 9-2 on the season.
Holasek posted four RBIs and Lopez followed with three RBIs to lead OCU at the dish.
Angela Lovelady drove in Rateliff with a sacrifice fly to right field to give the Stars a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the second.
Lopez singled to right and drove in Holasek in the bottom of the third to stretch the OCU lead to 2-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, Magean De La Torre scored on a squeeze play and Lovelady scored on a passed ball to stretch the Stars' lead to 4-1.
Wright scored on a passed ball and Tori Joyner singled through the right side of the infield to plate two more runs and give OCU a 7-1 lead.
Rachel Penner allowed a run the top of the seventh but retired the side to give OCU the 7-1 victory. Penner allowed two runs on nine hits and struck out six batters to move to 3-2 on the year.
Joyner and Lovelady finished with two RBIs apiece to lead OCU at the plate.
The Stars will return to action in a doubleheader against Mid-America Christian at noon Thursday in Oklahoma City on the road.
