Stars sweep Texas Wesleyan 8-0, 8-0

OCU smacked three home runs and improved to 22-4 on the season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University swept a doubleheader with Texas Wesleyan 8-0, 8-0 Saturday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The Stars, ranked fourth in NAIA softball, clubbed three home runs and shut out Texas Wesleyan to move to 22-4.
LeeAnn Lopez put OCU on the scoreboard with an RBI double to center field in the bottom of the first to make the score 1-0.
In the bottom of the second, Jamie Rateliff stole home and doubled the Stars lead. Tori Joyner followed with an RBI single to plate another OCU run. One batter later, Kyndra Holasek smacked a two-run homer to right field to stretch the lead to 5-0.
Drew Wright scored on an error in the bottom of the third and Lopez hit her 10th home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth to add two more runs and make the score 8-0.
Emily Krienke struck out one batter and retired the side in the top of the fifth to give OCU the 8-0 run-rule victory.
Elizabeth Oberst allowed four hits in four scoreless innings and improved to 14-2 on the season. Krienke tossed a scoreless inning in her OCU pitching debut.
Lopez went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs to lead the Stars at the plate. Holasek posted a pair of RBIs.
OCU pushed three runs across in the bottom of the first inning. Magean De La Torre capped the inning with an RBI double to make the score 3-0.
Angela Lovelady crushed her third home run of the year in the bottom of the fourth. Later in the inning, Joyner singled to center and plated Shelbi Legg to give OCU a 6-0 edge.
In the bottom of the sixth, Krienke scored on an error and Joyner doubled to left to score Legg and give the Stars the 8-0 run-rule victory.
Rateliff allowed two hits and no runs with three strikeouts to move to 5-0 as a starting pitcher.
De La Torre and Joyner each drove in two runs to lead OCU at the dish.
The Stars will return to action in a doubleheader against Graceland (Iowa) at 1 p.m. Sunday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
