OCU second-half surge falls short vs. Missouri

Stars drop exhibition to Tigers 73-48

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Missouri posted a 73-48 men's basketball exhibition win over Oklahoma City University on Friday at the Hearnes Center.
Kaleb Smith, a senior from Choctaw, Okla., sparked the Stars with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. A crowd of 9,222 witnessed the season debut for both squads.
Smith added five rebounds and four steals. Smith had previously played in OCU's exhibition against Oklahoma State on Nov. 1, 2010 in Stillwater, Okla.
Terence Bonhomme, a freshman from St. Martinville, La., supplied the Stars with 10 points, three rebounds and two 3-pointers in his first game wearing OCU's royal blue.
Dema Sane, a junior from Mermoza, Senegal, contributed nine points and four rebounds, and Terry Johnson, a senior from Chicago, topped OCU by snaring seven rebounds and two thefts. Jamil Donovan, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, led the Stars with three assists, and Terrence Walker, a senior from Jonesboro, Ark., pulled down five rebounds.
Jabari Brown led the Tigers with 15 points, while Earnest Ross picked up 13 points and 12 rebounds. Missouri commemorated its 1993-94 team with throwback uniforms. The Hearnes Center served as Mizzou's home arena from 1972-2004.
"I'm proud of our guys and the effort that they gave tonight," OCU coach Dionne Phelps said.
OCU staged a 13-0 second-half run to slice into a 23-point deficit. Sane and Smith contributed four points each. Ivan Matip ignited the run by sinking a jumper.
Bonhomme nailed a trey, then Smith's jumper in the lane capped the run. OCU cut its deficit to 51-41 with 11:50 to go.
The Stars face North Texas at 7 p.m. Nov. 1 in Denton, Texas, in another exhibition.
