OCU drops two matches in MidAmerica Nazarene Invitational

Evangel, MidAmerica Nazarene deal Stars setbacks

OLATHE, Kan. – Oklahoma City University fell twice in the MidAmerica Nazarene Invitational in three sets to host MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) and in five sets to Evangel (Mo.) on Friday at the Bell Family Arena.
The Stars went to 8-12 on the year.
MidAmerica Nazarene defeated OCU 25-20, 25-15, 25-14 earlier Friday. Aspen Healy, a junior right-side hitter from Oklahoma City, nailed a team-high seven kills for the Stars. Torrie Flynn, a junior middle blocker from Edmond, Okla., produced four kills, an ace and a solo block for OCU.
OCU's Meghan Irwin and Tori Leisure posted four kills each. Hannah Mitcham provided the Stars with 19 assists, two kills and three digs, and Anna Gentry picked up five digs.
The Stars led early using Healy's kill for a 3-2 edge. Irwin added a kill for a 4-3 lead, and Flynn's kill put OCU ahead 5-4. MidAmerica Nazarene answered with four points in a row.
In the third set, the Stars led 6-4, but MidAmerica Nazarene put together five consecutive points as Kimmie Kreeger served up consecutive aces.
OCU meets Baker (Kan.) at 10 a.m., then Benedictine (Kan.) at 2 p.m. Saturday in the MidAmerica Nazarene Invitational.
