OCU tops Rogers State 7-2, 3-1

OCU finished regular season play with a sweep of Rogers State to move to 36-17 overall and 21-4 in SAC play

Angela Lovelady hit her second grand slam of the season Tuesday against Rogers State.
OKLAHOMA CITY –No. 3 Oklahoma City University finished the regular season with a sweep of Rogers State 7-2 and 3-1 Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The sweep moves the Stars, ranked third in NAIA softball, to 36-17 overall and 21-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Tori Joyner led off the bottom of the first inning with a single to right and later scored on a wild pitch to give OCU an early 1-0 lead.
Later in the inning, Angela Lovelady blasted a grand slam over the center-field fence to make the score 5-0 in favor of the Stars.
Lily LaVelle drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the third to plate Danielle Fox and stretch the OCU lead to 6-0.
Joyner doubled to right in the bottom of the fifth to drive in Katie Proffitt and give the Stars a 7-0 lead.
Rogers State pushed two runs across in the top of the sixth, but A.J. Woodward battled back and retired the Rogers State side in order in the top of the seventh to give OCU the 7-2 victory.
LaVelle started in the circle and allowed two hits in three scoreless innings. Woodward tossed four innings out the bullpen and recorded two strikeouts to pick up the win and move to 14-1 on the season.
Lovelady went 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs to lead OCU at the plate.
In game No. 2, LaVelle led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer to center to put OCU on top 1-0.
Proffitt singled to right to plate Jamie Rateliff in the bottom of the fifth. Lovelady scored when Proffitt was caught in a run down between first base and second base to push the Stars' lead to 3-0.
Rogers State managed a run in the top of the sixth, but LaVelle recorded four of her 13 strikeouts in the sixth and seventh innings to give OCU the 3-1 win.
LaVelle tossed seven innings and gave up one run on three hits to earn the win and move to 33-2 on the season.
Proffitt and LaVelle each went 1-for-2 with an RBI to lead the Stars at the dish.
OCU will return to action in the SAC Tournament May 4-5 at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. Game times and matchups are to be determined.
