Stars upend Oklahoma Baptist 4-0, 5-1

The sweep moves OCU to 32-17 overall and 17-4 in SAC play

Kaite Proffitt went 1-for-3 and scored the go-ahead run in the first game of a doubleheader against Oklahoma Baptist Thursday.
OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 3 Oklahoma City University swept Oklahoma Baptist 4-0 and 5-1 in a doubleheader Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The Stars, ranked third in NAIA softball, got 13 strikeouts from Lily LaVelle in the first game and home runs from Jamie Rateliff and Kylee Rounsaville in the second to improve to 32-17 overall and 17-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Tori Joyner put the Stars on top in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI double to left-center field to make the score 1-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, Rounsaville singled through the left side of the infield to drive in Angela Lovelady and make the score 2-0. Magean De La Torre later scored on a wild pitch to stretch the OCU lead to 3-0.
Later in the inning, Danielle Fox singled to right to plate Rounsaville and give the Stars a 4-0 advantage.
LaVelle took a no-hit bid into the top of the seventh, but Ashley Clifton singled to center for Oklahoma Baptist's only hit of the game. The senior from Bridge Creek, Okla., retired the side to give OCU the 4-0 victory.
LaVelle struck out 13 in seven scoreless innings to pick up the win and move to 31-2 on the season.
Joyner went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Fox and Rounsaville each went 1-for-3 with a RBI to lead OCU at the plate.
After an Oklahoma Baptist home run in the top of the second, Rateliff blasted her fourth homer of the season in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score at 1-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, Rateliff singled to left and drove in De La Torre to make the score 2-1. Rounsaville followed with a 2-run homer to left to stretch OCU's lead to 4-1.
Later in the inning, LaVelle singled up the middle to plate Joyner from second and make the score 5-1.
LaVelle struck out two in the top of the seventh to secure the 5-1 win for OCU.
A.J. Woodward allowed one run on five hits in five innings of work to pick up the win and move 12-1 on the season. LaVelle tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Rateliff and Rounsaville drove in two runs apiece to lead the Stars at the dish.
OCU will return to action against USAO in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
