Stars sweep SAC softball honors

LeeAnn Lopez was named SAC player of the week and Lily LaVelle earned pitcher of the week honors

LeeAnn Lopez is hitting .457 with 44 RBIs and 17 home runs for OCU this season.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City University teammates LeeAnn Lopez and Lily LaVelle earned Sooner Athletic Conference softball player and pitcher of the week for March 26-April 1.
Lopez, of Grand Prairie, Texas, led the fourth-ranked Stars to sweeps of No. 21 Oklahoma Christian and No. 1 Lubbock Christian in four SAC road games. The junior first baseman hit .529 and went 9-for-17 with four home runs for a 1.235 slugging percentage. Lopez added seven RBIs and scored seven runs.
LaVelle, a senior from Bridge Creek, Okla., was 4-0 on the week with a 3.87 earned run average. The right-hander struck out 36 batters in 25.1 innings and is now 23-1 on the year. LaVelle has been named SAC pitcher of the week five times this season.
The Stars, 32-2 overall and 9-1 in SAC play, will return to action in a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Oklahoma Wesleyan Tuesday in Bartlesville, Okla.
