LaVelle of OCU takes SAC pitcher of week

Senior from Bridge Creek, Okla., honored by SAC for second consecutive time

Lily LaVelle has notched an 8-1 record with three saves and 116 strikeouts this season.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University pitcher Lily LaVelle has garnered Sooner Athletic Conference softball pitcher of the week for Feb. 27-March 4.
LaVelle, a senior from Bridge Creek, Okla., picked up her second SAC pitcher of the week award in a row and sixth in her career.
She was 3-0 with two saves and a 1.44 earned run average on the week. She had wins over Mid-America Christian, Ottawa (Kan.) and 20th-ranked Central Methodist (Mo.) and saves against Morningside (Iowa) and Bethany (Kan.). For the week, she had 54 strikeouts against two walks and 13 hits in 24.1 innings of work.
LaVelle took a perfect game into the fifth inning and ended up with for her 10th career one-hitter against Mid-America Christian on Wednesday. She notched 12 strikeouts in five innings.
Against Ottawa, LaVelle fanned 15 in six innings for the victory Saturday.
LaVelle is 8-1 with a 1.17 earned run average, three saves and 116 strikeouts in 60 innings this season for OCU (14-1).
The Stars, ranked third in the NAIA, visit West Texas A&M, ranked second in NCAA Division II, for a 2 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday in Canyon, Texas. For live stats, click here. To watch the game, click here
