Stars snag two wins in Friends Tournament

OCU topped Bethany 17-9 and No. 20 Central Methodist 5-3

Magean De La Torre went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a home run against Bethany Sunday.
WICHITA, Kan. - Third-ranked Oklahoma City University smashed Bethany (Kan.) 17-9 and downed No. 20 Central Methodist (Mo.) 5-3 in the Friends Tournament at Two Rivers Youth Club.
The Stars, ranked third in NAIA softball, clubbed seven home runs against Bethany to pick up their 13th win of the season. Pitcher A.J. Woodward, of Menifee, Calif., tossed four innings and picked up the win to move to 4-0 on the season.
Lily LaVelle, of Bridge Creek, Okla., went 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBIs to lead OCU at the plate. Junior LeeAnn Lopez finished 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, and fellow junior Magean De La Torre went 3-for-5 with a homerun and two RBIs. Freshman Jamie Rateliff added a home run and sophomore Kylee Rounsaville hit two homers.
OCU improved to 14-1 overall with a win against No. 20 Central Methodist. LaVelle threw a complete game to move to 8-1 on the season.
Lopez went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs to lead the Stars at the dish. LaVelle slugged another home run and finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Haley Anderson, of Edmond, Okla., finished 3-for-4.
The Stars will return to action in a doubleheader against West Texas A&M at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Canyon, Texas.
