Stars take two from Huston-Tillotson

OCU won 8-0 and 11-1 in the doubleheader

Kylee Rounsaville went 4-for-6 with four RBIs in two games against Huston-Tillotson Thursday.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Third-ranked Oklahoma City University pounded Huston-Tillotson (Texas) 8-0 and 11-1 in a doubleheader Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The sweep moves the Stars, ranked No.3 in NAIA softball, to 19-2 on the season.
After starting pitcher Lily LaVelle struck out the side in the top of the first inning of game No. 1, LeeAnn Lopez, a junior from Grand Prairie, Texas, smashed a two-run home run to center field to give OCU a 2-0 lead.
Sophomore Danielle Fox hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the second to make the score 4-0. Later in the inning, LaVelle singled to drive in Tori Joyner from second base a push the OCU lead to 5-0.
Kylee Rounsaville doubled to left to plate Magean De La Torre from second and make the score 6-0 in the bottom of the third.
OCU pushed its lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the fourth after back-to-back doubles from LaVelle and Lopez.
Freshman Jamie Rateliff singled to left to score Lopez and give OCU the 8-0 run-rule victory.
LaVelle picked up the win to move to 12-1 on the season. The senior from Bridge Creek, Okla., tossed four scoreless innings and struck out 10 batters.
Senior A.J. Woodward pitched two scoreless innings in relief and recorded two strikeouts.
Lopez led the Stars at the dish going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Fox chipped in with a pair of RBIs.
LaVelle put OCU on the scoreboard in the second game with a solo home run to center. Four batters later, Rateliff homered to left to plate three more runs and make the score 4-0 in the bottom of the first.
Back-to-back RBI doubles from Lopez and junior Angela Lovelady pushed the Stars' lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the third.
LaVelle led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run to make the score 7-1. After Lovelady scored on a fielder's choice, Rounsaville put the game out of reach with a three-run home run to left to make the score 11-1.
Fox retired the side in order in the top of the fifth to give OCU the 11-1 run-rule victory. Fox, of Yukon, Okla., tossed three scoreless innings in relief and picked up the win to move to 3-0 on the season.
Woodward started and allowed one run on one hit in two innings.
Rateliff finished 1-for-1 with three RBIs and Rounsaville went 3-for-3 with three RBIs to lead OCU at the plate.
OCU will return to action against Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday in Clermont, Fla.
