Stars shut down Southern Nazarene 2-0

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University blanked Southern Nazarene 2-0 Tuesday at Stars Field.
The Stars, ranked No. 8 in NAIA women's soccer, posted their 10th shutout of the season and moved to 12-1 overall.
Junior goalkeeper Alissa Reed, of Fort Worth, Texas, kept the Crimson Storm off the scoreboard in the 34th minute when she saved Kendra Nixon's shot.
OCU failed to put any shots on goal in the first half, and the match was scoreless at halftime.
The Stars got on the board in the 53rd minute when freshman Allison Worsham, of Edmond Okla., found Sheridan Horner with a pass from midfield. The senior from Choctaw, Okla., beat Southern Nazarene goalkeeper Yoli Zamarripa to score her seventh goal of the season and give the Stars a 1-0 lead.
OCU put the game out of reach in the 69th minute when junior Meghan McMahon, of Oklahoma City, found Worsham in the box. Worsham slid and put the ball in the back of the net to make the OCU lead 2-0.
Junior goalkeeper Ashley Bechtold, of Oklahoma City, made three saves in the second half to keep the Crimson Storm scoreless and give the Stars the 2-0 victory.
The OCU defense has posted a shutout in three of their last four matches and has allowed just four goals this season.
OCU will return to Sooner Athletic Conference action against Lubbock Christian (Texas) at 5 p.m. Thursday at Stars Field.
