OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University faces Rogers State at 11 a.m. Friday in the Sooner Athletic Conference softball tournament at Hall of Fame Stadium.
The Stars (40-11) will vie for their fourth consecutive SAC Tournament championship. OCU took the conference regular-season co-championship.
OCU, ranked 11th in the NAIA, swept the four-game regular-season series against Rogers State by a combined score of 32-2. The Stars would play again 3 p.m. Friday. The matchup and which field would depend upon the result of the OCU-Rogers State game. For live stats of OCU's games, click here.
Nathalie Timmermans, a junior from Oldenzaal, Netherlands, owns a team-high .423 batting average and 60 RBIs to go with 16 home runs. Lily LaVelle, a junior from Bridge Creek, Okla., adds a .395 average with a team-high 17 homers plus 44 RBIs.
LaVelle has been OCU's stalwart in the pitching circle this season. LaVelle has gone 23-7 with a 0.69 earned run average, 15 shutouts and 302 strikeouts in 195.1 innings. She pitched a perfect game against Mid-America Christian on April 12 at Ann Lacy Stadium. LaVelle ranks in the NAIA's top 10 in eight individual statistical categories, including second in ERA and third in strikeouts.
The SAC Tournament champion gains a spot in the NAIA Championships on May 19-25 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
