OCU's LaVelle becomes SAC pitcher of week

Stars junior picks up fourth weekly honor from conference

Lily LaVelle has been named Sooner Athletic Conference pitcher of the week for three consecutive weeks.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's Lily LaVelle has been named Sooner Athletic Conference softball pitcher of the week for April 4-10.
LaVelle, a junior from Bridge Creek, Okla., threw a no-hitter against Oklahoma Wesleyan, striking out 13. She also threw one inning with no hits and a strikeout in the second game of the doubleheader to finish the week with 14 strikeouts and no hits and no walks allowed in eight innings of work.
LaVelle's performance makes five for her OCU career. LaVelle's other no-hitters happened March 17, 2009 vs. Dordt (Iowa), April 6, 2009 at Southern Nazarene, April 24, 2009 vs. Northwestern Oklahoma State and May 4, 2010 vs. Rogers State. She combined on a no-hitter vs. Southern Nazarene on May 1, 2009.
LaVelle garnered her third consecutive SAC pitcher of the week award. She also had SAC player of the week earlier this year.
On the year, LaVelle has gone 16-4 with a 0.67 earned run average. She has recorded 10 shutouts, two saves and 192 strikeouts in 124.2 innings.
The Stars face Mid-America Christian in a 5 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
