OCU gains SAC player, pitcher of week awards

Theriot, Walker rewarded for week's effort

Corey Theriot has gone 4-0 to start the season.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City has swept the weekly baseball honors with Corey Theriot and Kirk Walker capturing Sooner Athletic Conference baseball pitcher and player of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 28-March 6.
The two fueled OCU's first regular-season series sweep of Lubbock Christian (Texas) since 2003.
Theriot, a senior pitcher from Iowa, La., tossed a complete-game, four-hit shutout over fifth-ranked Lubbock Christian. The Stars won 1-0 as Theriot struck out five and walked one in the first game of the series.
On the year, Theriot has gone 4-0 with a 2.78 earned run average and 28 strikeouts in 32.1 innings.
Walker, a senior shortstop from Bakersfield, Calif., led the Stars to a 5-0 week with nine hits in 23 at bats for a .435 average. He had two doubles and one home run to go with 10 RBIs and nine runs scored. He hit safely in all five games.
For the year, Walker is hitting .389 with seven doubles, a homer and 21 RBIs.
The Stars, ranked seventh in the NAIA, face Iowa Wesleyan at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium. OCU (15-2) picked up its 15th consecutive win Sunday vs. Iowa Wesleyan 22-8 at Jim Wade Stadium.
