Stars Hold Off Sterling in Slugfest

STERLING, Kan. – Oklahoma City scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning and held on for an 18-17 win at Sterling on Tuesday.
 
The Stars finished with 20 hits, including six home runs. Aiden Van Rensum was four-for-four with two home runs and seven RBIs. Wyatt Pace had three hits, including two homers, and four RBIs. Rensum also had OCU's lone scoreless inning of relief to get the win.
 
Van Rensum gave the Stars a 3-0 lead in the first inning with a three-run home run and added another in the second for a 6-1 lead.
 
Trent Baker scored on an error in the fourth to build a 7-3 lead. Van Rensum, Baker and Brittain Brewer added RBI singles in the fifth to put the Stars ahead 10-5.
 
Brewer added a sacrifice fly, Baker hit a solo home run and Pace added a two-run home run to deliver a 14-6 lead in the top of the seventh.
 
The Knights scored nine runs before the first out of the bottom of the seventh was recorded to take a 15-14 lead.
 
Wyatt Pace got the Stars back in front, 16-15, with a two-run home run in the top of the ninth. Cooper Holtorf and Sammy Ponce followed suit with back-to-back home runs for an 18-15 lead.
 
The Knights scored twice and had runners at second and third with one out before Nick Anaya worked out of the situation to get the save.
 
In addition to the display by Van Rensum and Pace, Holtorf had three hits and Aiden Alexander, Clayton Allen, Brewer and Baker had two apiece.
 
The Stars get back to action on Thursday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at USAO.
