CONWAY, Ark. – Oklahoma City University picked up two more wins in the Central Baptist Invitational 6-1 over Lindenwood (Mo.) and 10-2 over Lyon (Ark.) on Saturday.
The Stars, ranked 10th in NAIA softball, moved to 10-2 on the year. Lily LaVelle hit a home run against Lindenwood, while Brittany Caruthers, Magean De La Torre and LeeAnn Lopez went yard against Lyon.
LaVelle, a junior from Bridge Creek, Okla., finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and her fourth homer of the year. LaVelle entered the circle in the fifth and finished the game pitching.
OCU had 11 hits against Lindenwood. The Stars plated four runs in the sixth.
A.J. Woodward, a junior from Menifee, Calif., notched her fifth win of the year.
Against Lyon, LaVelle earned the win to improve to 4-2. LaVelle permitted two runs on five hits in seven innings of work.
Caruthers, a sophomore from Waxahachie, Texas, went 2-for-4 with three runs driven in and her fifth homer of the year. De La Torre, a sophomore from Plano, Texas, went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and her first homer as a Star.
Tori Joyner, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Brittany Tibbs, a senior from Kansas City, Mo., finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Lopez, a sophomore from Grand Prairie, Texas, drove the ball out of the park for the third time this year. The Stars cranked 14 hits vs. Lyon.
OCU faces Oklahoma Wesleyan in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
