OCU routs Mid-America 12-0, 12-0

Stars ring up 31 hits in doubleheader

LeeAnn Lopez smacked four hits and drove in four runs Tuesday.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University blistered Mid-America Christian 12-0, 12-0 on Tuesday at Jack Allen Field.

Brittany Caruthers and Lily LaVelle nailed home runs, and the Stars took advantage of six Mid-America Christian errors. OCU, ranked 10th in NAIA softball, improved to 7-1, 4-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

LaVelle, a junior from Bridge Creek, Okla., pounded a three-run blast in the second inning of the first game. The Stars went ahead 5-0 on LaVelle's shot.

OCU put together a four-run third. LaVelle, Katie Proffitt and Tori Joyner each had RBI singles.

Chelsey Eddy had an RBI base hit, while LeeAnn Lopez drove in two more runs on a single in the fifth.

OCU totaled 16 hits in the first game. LaVelle went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and four RBIs, and Joyner, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., was 3-for-3 with a run scored and a run driven in. Shari Misuraca, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, went 2-for-3 and scored twice, while Katie Proffitt, a junior from Tulsa, Okla., was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

A.J. Woodward, a junior from Menifee, Calif., moved to 3-0 on the year with the win. Woodward notched 10 strikeouts in five innings of work. Woodward also went 2-for-2 with three runs scored offensively.

In the second game, Caruthers sparked the Stars with a two-run homer in the first.

Caruthers and Joyner added RBI base hits, and LaVelle scored on a double steal in the second.

In the fourth, Caruthers put OCU up 6-0 using a run-scoring single.

Lopez brought in two runs on a double, and Joyner added an RBI double in the fifth. Magean De La Torre made it a six-run inning with an RBI single.

OCU finished with 15 hits. Caruthers, a sophomore from Waxahachie, Texas, went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, while Joyner was 2-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBIs. LaVelle was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a run driven in, and Lopez was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. De La Torre, a sophomore from Plano, Texas, went 2-for-4 with a run driven in, and Kylee Rounsaville, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

LaVelle (3-1) struck out the side in the first two innings before Autumn Lawrence singled for Mid-America. LaVelle set Mid-America down in order the rest of the game. LaVelle fanned 10 in five innings.

OCU plays next in the Central Baptist Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Conway, Ark.
