FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Oklahoma City University completed a winning weekend in the St. Gregory's Invitational, falling 2-1 to Belhaven (Miss.) and trouncing Bacone 12-1 on Saturday at Oran Good Park.
The Stars, ranked 10th in NAIA softball, dropped a top-25 matchup against 12th-ranked Belhaven. OCU went to 3-1 on the year.
Rian O'Bannon's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh brought Belhaven the victory. OCU and Belhaven traded runs in the third inning to forge the 1-1 tie.
Lily LaVelle nailed a solo home run for the Stars' run in the top of the third. LaVelle, a junior from Bridge Creek, Okla., went 2-for-4, while Tori Joyner, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., was 2-for-3.
LaVelle allowed two runs on four hits, but ended up going to 1-1 on the year.
Against Bacone, the Stars pounded 15 hits. Brittany Caruthers and LeeAnn Lopez cranked homers.
Caruthers, a sophomore from Rockett, Texas, went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while Kylee Rounsaville, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a double.
A.J. Woodward, a junior from Menifee, Calif., improved to 2-0 on the year. Woodward permitted one run on four hits in seven innings.
OCU takes on Southern Nazarene in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday in Bethany, Okla.
