FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Oklahoma City University picked up a 5-0 win over Houston-Victoria and a 9-0 victory over Friends (Kan.) on Friday at Oran Good Park in the St. Gregory's Invitational.
The Stars, ranked 10th in NAIA softball, began the season with two wins.
In its season opener vs. 19th-ranked Houston-Victoria, OCU broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the sixth inning, then followed with three runs in the seventh. Kylee Rounsaville, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., went 1-for-2 with an RBI double, while Kelsey Link, a freshman from Albuquerque, N.M., added a pinch-hit, RBI single for the Stars.
Lily LaVelle, a junior from Bridge Creek, Okla., struck out seven batters while allowing only one hit over seven innings to get the win for the Stars. LaVelle added a 2-for-4 performance at the plate.
Against Friends, the Stars posted seven runs in the second inning and two more in the third. A.J. Woodward, a junior from Menifee, Calif., racked up her first OCU win, allowing two hits and fanning nine in five innings.
LeeAnn Lopez, a sophomore from Grand Prairie, went 2-for-3 with two runs driven in, while Nathalie Timmermans, a junior from Oldenzaal, Netherlands, was 2-for-3.
OCU continues play in the St. Gregory's Invitational on Saturday, taking on Belhaven (Miss.) at 10 a.m. and Bacone at 3 p.m.
