Stars breeze past Lubbock Christian 3-0

OCU advances to SAC Tournament semifinals Tuesday

Alissa Reed played a scoreless second half to help give the Stars a 3-0 victory.
OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 1 seed Oklahoma City University took down Lubbock Christian (Texas) 3-0 Saturday at Stars Field to advance to the semifinals of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Stars, ranked 15th in NAIA women's soccer, moved to 16-1-1 on the season.
OCU got on the scoreboard first in the 33rd minute when junior Brenna Skillern took a free kick and found junior Hollis St. John. St. John beat LCU goalkeeper Allison Brinson for her second goal of the season making the score 1-0.
The Stars pushed their lead to 2-0 in the 66th minute when sophomore Blerta Rashica's cross from the right corner found the back of the net for her 12th goal of the season.
Sophomore Meghan McMahon put the match out of reach with her 18th goal of the season in the 68th minute. She scored a breakaway goal to make the final score 3-0 in favor of the Stars.
Ashley Bechtold and Alissa Reed shared goalkeeping duties for OCU. The sophomore goalkeepers notched one save a piece and combined for the shutout.
The Stars outshot LCU 19-8 and put nine shots on goal in the match.
With the win OCU moves on to the SAC Tournament semifinals. The Stars host Rogers State at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Stars Field.
