ALEXANDRIA, La. – Oklahoma City University suffered its first loss of the season 6-5 to Houston-Victoria on Saturday in the LSU-Alexandria Spring Round Robin in a matchup of top-20 teams in NAIA softball.
Houston-Victoria, ranked 13th, scored the eventual winning run on an error in the seventh inning.The third-ranked Stars (2-1) answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, but the rally fell short.
Lily LaVelle drove in a run on a double to left-center in the seventh, then scored on Amanda Howard's groundout.
Brittany Boren scored the game-winning run in the seventh for Houston-Victoria.
LaVelle, a sophomore from Bridge Creek, Okla., and Nathalie Timmermans, a sophomore from Oldenzaal, Netherlands, each went 1-for-3. Laurin Hess, a senior from Edmond, Okla., had OCU's other hit.
LaVelle (1-1) took the loss after striking out seven in six innings.
OCU faces Alcorn State at 9 a.m., then LSU-Alexandria at 11 a.m. Sunday to conclude the LSU-Alexandria Spring Round Robin.
