OKLAHOMA CITY – 15th-ranked Oklahoma City University enters postseason play as the No. 1 seed of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, hosting Lubbock Christian (Texas) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Stars Field the in tournament quarterfinals.
The Stars finished the season 16-2, 11-0 in the SAC after a 2-1 double-overtime win over Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday to finish conference play without a loss. OCU earned an automatic bid to the NAIA Championship Opening Round.
In the regular-season meeting, OCU traveled to Lubbock Christian and won by a 3-0 margin. The Stars were held scoreless in the first half before breaking out in the second.
“It was difficult for us to read Lubbock Christian in the first half, but we were fortunate enough to find the net three times in the second,” OCU coach Brian Harvey said. “I know the ladies are looking forward to hosting Lubbock Christian and having home field advantage for the playoffs.”
OCU is led by a trio of point-getters this season. Senior forward Malin Andersson has contributed 11 goals, 17 assists and 39 points for the Stars. Andersson is tied for third in the NAIA for total assists this season.
Freshmen forwards Meghan McMahon and Blerta Rashica have 12 goals each, and total 26 and 30 points on the season, respectively.
Alex Miley, Sheridan Horner and Ariel Baytfar have contributed 11 points for OCU's high-powered offense. The Stars are tied for 15th in the NAIA in total goals on the season.
OCU has won 10 Sooner Athletic Conference championships, posting league crowns in 1994, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2008 and now 2010.
