OKLAHOMA CITY – The 23rd-ranked Oklahoma City University women's soccer team notched their sixth straight win and third consecutive shutout after beating Rogers State 1-0 on Tuesday at Stars Field.
The Stars (8-2, 3-0) played a balanced game, with an attacking offense and staunch defense being played throughout. OCU outshot the Hillcats 21-1 in the game, with Malin Andersson, Alex Miley and Blerta Rashica going for four shots apiece.
The Stars managed the only score of the match in the 52nd minute. Sheridan Horner, a sophomore from Choctaw, Okla., netted the goal for the Stars. Andersson put the ball in play from the corner kick, and after a scrum near the net Horner scored the game-winning goal. This marks the ninth assist for Andersson, a senior from Huskvarna, Sweden, and Horner's first goal of the season.
“We should have scored more goals,” OCU coach Brian Harvey said of the match. “We had 21 shots compared to just one, so I was pleased by the way they played, but disappointed by the amount.”
For the Stars, the defense shone brightly again, giving the squad their sixth shutout of the season for goalkeeper Brittany Tibbs and the stalwart defense.
OCU will carry its unbeaten home record into this weekend's matchup with Mid-America Christian. The Stars play host to Mid-America Christian at 5 p.m. Saturday at Stars Field.
