OCU women extend winning streak to 12 matches

Stars beat Lubbock Christian 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon

Senior Malin Andersson had an assist and a goal in Tuesday's match.

LUBBOCK, Texas – The 15th-ranked Oklahoma City University women's soccer team posted a 3-0 victory over Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Tuesday afternoon.

The Stars (14-2, 9-0) continued their winning streak, posting their ninth shutout of the season and 12th consecutive victory. The OCU defense held Lubbock Christian to two shots on the day, neither of which were on goal.

OCU's offense was led again by Swedish-born players Malin Andersson and Blerta Rashica, with both women taking five shots on the day.  The Stars held the 15-2 shot advantage in the match, and all three OCU goals came after halftime.

Rashica, a freshman from Orebro, Sweden, scored the first goal of the game in the 49th minute of play, a long-range kick that found its mark. The unassisted ball went over the goalkeeper's head and just under the crossbar to find the net and give OCU the 1-0 advantage. Rashica is the leading goal-scorer for the Stars with 12 on the year.

Andersson, a senior from Huskvarna, Sweden, connected with Alex Miley in the 62nd minute to add another goal. Miley, a senior from Edmond, Okla., received the pass from Andersson and moved to the top of the box. Kicking with her left foot, Miley bent the shot into the top left corner of the goal for the score. This marks Andersson's team-leading 16th assist on the season, which leads the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Three minutes later, Andersson gained a goal of her own with a shot just beyond the reach of the goalkeeper. Rashica was credited with the assist on the goal. Andersson's 36 points leads the team and puts her at third in the conference.

OCU returns home for Senior Day on Saturday, where they will play host to cross-town rivals Southern Nazarene in a 5 p.m. match at Stars Field.
