LEWISTON, Idaho – Oklahoma City University dropped to the NAIA World Series elimination bracket in an 8-3 loss to Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) on Monday at Harris Field.
The second-ranked Stars (52-8) will meet Southern Polytechnic State (Ga.) at 5 p.m. Oklahoma time Tuesday. Third-ranked Point Loma Nazarene (43-11) will face No. 1 Lubbock Christian (Texas) at 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Chris Honer scattered seven hits in eight innings to earn the win and move to 6-0. Garrett Parker took his first loss of the year, going to 8-1.
The Stars scored two runs in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3. Brent Weaver nailed an RBI single to center, then Sammy Lee reached home plate from second base when Point Loma shortstop Tyler Kuehl bounced a throw intended for the second baseman away for an error.
Point Loma responded with five unanswered runs. In the sixth, Wes Karch and Kuehl had RBI doubles, then Kuehl scored on an error. In the seventh, Ian Macmaster hit a home run, and Tim Winslow had an RBI single.
Point Loma center fielder Kurt Steinhauer reached high at the wall to grab a long fly ball off the bat of Landon Camp with the bases loaded to end the eighth.
Jason Machado brought home OCU's first run on a single to left-center field with two out in the fourth inning.
Lee, a senior from Ninnekah, Okla., went 2-for-5 and scored a run, and Weaver, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., was 2-for-5 and scored a run and had an RBI. Wheeler went 1-for-3 and drew a walk, while Machado was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
