DECATUR, Ala. – Oklahoma City University topped Bethel (Tenn.) 3-0 on Thursday at Wilson Morgan Softball Complex in the NAIA Championships.
Ashley Wilburn threw a two-hit, complete-game shutout, while the Stars (49-7) capitalized on a bases-loaded situation in the fourth inning. Eighth-ranked Bethel fell to 33-13.
OCU scored twice in the fourth as Amanda Howard drew a bases-full walk, then Mindy Crabaugh got hit by pitch to score another run. Wilburn, Kendall Hobens and Lily LaVelle had back-to-back-to-back base hits to fill the bases for Howard.
The Stars scored their first run in the third. Erin Slettvet bounced a base hit past the shortstop to score Howard.
Wilburn, a junior from Gilmer, Texas, notched seven strikeouts in throwing all seven innings. Wilburn (22-3) did not allow a walk. She worked a perfect game through four innings.
OCU had six hits. Howard, a junior from Strathmore, Alberta, Canada, went 1-for-3, scored a run and drove in a run. Slettvet, a senior from Long Beach, Calif., was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Hobens, a junior from Tulsa, Okla., went 1-for-3 and scored.
The Stars face Georgetown (Ky.) at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Wilson Morgan Softball Complex.
