OCU suffers 2-1, 1-0 losses to St. Gregory's

Ashley Wilburn recorded 14 strikeouts in the first game.

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University was swept in a doubleheader for the first time this year, losing 2-1 in nine innings and 1-0 to St. Gregory's on Thursday in a matchup of top 10-ranked softball teams in the NAIA.

The fourth-ranked Stars went to 36-6, 18-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while sixth-ranked St. Gregory's improved to 31-8, 17-3.

In the first game, Cortney Reynaga drove in the winning run for St. Gregory's with a single to right field.

OCU scored the tying run in the seventh when Amanda Howard had an infield hit to bring in Mindy Crabaugh.

Crabaugh, Howard and Jen Davis had base hits for the Stars. Ashley Wilburn took the loss, moving to 16-3. Wilburn notched 14 strikeouts.

In the second game, Reynaga hit a solo home run in the fourth for the winning run.

OCU put two runners on in the seventh. Kendall Hobens led off with a single, and Lily LaVelle made it on with a walk with one out. Melissa Moore struck out, and Howard popped up in the infield to end the game.

LaVelle went to 16-3. LaVelle fanned eight and gave up one run on four hits.

Hobens and Howard had the Stars' only hits.

OCU meets Oklahoma Christian at 5 p.m. Tuesday in a doubleheader at Ann Lacy Stadium.
